Lives up to it's promise of waterproof and tough. Bought from Best Buy as they are the only ones that had it in stock. We had an earlier model and were updating for the HDVideo. I will be taking this on a 14 day backpacking hike, will let you know. Video is pretty good and pictures are also pretty good. These cameras do not expose well with flash and this one suffers the same fate, for close up flash shots you will want to compensate by setting exposure down 1 or 2 clicks but other than that the shots are good. And sometimes focus/ready will be delayed, I've missed shots because of that. I'm sure as I get to use the presets it will get better. Looking forward to the GPS on my treck. It works and this is great for iPhoto and tracking locations.. It also is a little heavy but that is what it's about, this is a tough camera and you can feel confident taking it anywhere.

Best Buy Cameras - This is a great little machine. Very pleased with image quality, very stable, well made camera. Good value for the price. I had a Nikon Coolpix I purchased for a Grand Canyon vacation. It randomly turned itself off and shut down after less than 2 days of use.

I've read the Olympus XZ-1 review elsewhere that said that the ring back on the camera control is often problematic and very annoying, but I do not feel the problem. Indeed, it became a little problem is the lack of buttons AFL / AEL, but this is not a big problem if on appeal the various advantages of the Olympus XZ-1.

Auto focus Menu on the Olympus XZ-1 works pretty well. With this auto focus menu, you can select 11 different focus points to get a pic that you want, hold down the shutter button and recompose halfway. In general, auto-focus Menu capability on Olympus XZ-1 is quite fast and accurate.

To give an idea of the pros and cons of cameras Olympus xz-1, the following is a summary of Olympus XZ-1 Review:

Pros:
  • Olympus xz-1 has an f/1.8 lens that provides excellent image quality in low light situations
  • Have a live view 3-inch OLED monitor is bright enough to see in daylight, and you can see the depth of field in the aperture mode before taking pictures.
  • A good sensor that can capture the object in detail.
  • Anti-shake mechanism to work optimally. When tested 1 / 40, 1 / 25, even 1 second exposures, the result is very satisfactory. Another DSLR usually gives results that blurry.
  • Setting the lens easier to use by setting aperture, shutter, scene modes; or rotates images.
  • There are 6 art filters that serve as a digital effect that works in real time.
  • There are 18 Scene modes that simplify the picture taking, optimally.
  • Macro mode can focus can work in very close proximity.
  • Easy to carry anywhere. You can save it in your pocket.

Cons:
  • Art and Scene modes are on the top dial along with P/A/S/M modes, so you cannot combine those (for example, you can't apply the filter of art, while the aperture priority, but I think some people are assigned to ring the opening of the overwrite aperture/shutter)
  • Shutter lag is clearly visible if you are a DSLR user. If time is important, treat sequentially. Fortunately, there are even as high-speed burst shooting.
  • Lens is very bright at times. The shutter speed cannot go faster than 1/2000s. At f/1.8 the light of day, you begin to see light at the edges. EDIT: With a density filter function naturally, this does not happen again!
  • Some of the art filtering requires more processing power than others, which makes the screen (Live View) refresh slower. For the image is no big deal. But if you record a movie like that, you get a lower speed. But again, this camera is not intended to replace the camcorder or the post-processing software.
  • There is no viewfinder.
